Can’t find what you’re looking for in the library? Check out these tips on what to do when you can’t find the books you’re looking for.

Check the library catalog
If you can’t find the book you’re looking for on the shelf, the first thing you should do is check the library catalog. The catalog will tell you if we have the book, where it is, and whether or not it’s available.
Ask a librarian
If you are looking for a specific book and can’t seem to find it, ask a librarian. They are trained professionals who know how to find books and other resources.
Use interlibrary loan
Interlibrary loan lets you request materials from other libraries. If we don’t have what you’re looking for, we may be able to get it for you from another library system. Just ask a librarian, or fill out an interlibrary loan form.
Try an online search
If you can’t find the books you’re looking for in the library, try an online search. You may be able to find what you’re looking for using a search engine like Google, Bing, or Yahoo. You can also try using an online library catalog such as WorldCat.
Check for digital copies
With physical distancing measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many libraries have closed their doors to the public. This can be frustrating if you’re used to being able to browse the stacks for your next read. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of ways to find books even when you can’t physically go to the library.
One great way to find books is to check for digital copies that you can borrow from your library’s website. Many libraries offer e-books and audiobooks that you can check out and download straight to your device. All you need is a library card and a web browser!
If your library doesn’t offer digital copies, or if you’re looking for something specific that they don’t have, you can try interlibrary loan. This service allows you to borrow books from other libraries, even if they’re not in your system. You’ll usually have to request the book through your library’s website or by talking to a librarian, but it’s a great way to get access to hard-to-find titles.
Finally, don’t forget about used bookstores! Although you won’t be able to browse in person right now, most used bookstores have an online presence where you can order books to be shipped directly to your home. And since many of them are independent businesses, you’ll be supporting a great cause while stocking up on reading material.

If you are still having trouble finding a book review, you can try contacting the publisher directly. The publisher’s website should have contact information listed.

Additionally, many universities make their libraries’ holdings available to students and faculty members remotely, so even if you’re not affiliated with a particular institution, you may still be able to access its resources.
Finally, don’t forget about interlibrary loan! If a book is not available at your local library, you can usually request it through interlibrary loan. This service allows libraries to borrow books from other libraries on behalf of their patrons. It’s typically free or very low-cost, and it can be a great way to get your hands on hard-to-find titles.
