Introduction

In Leslie Steven’s “What the Dog Did: Tales from a Formerly Reluctant Dog Owner”, the author chronicles her experiences as a first-time dog owner. From choosing the right dog for her lifestyle to learning how to communicate with her new furry friend, Stevens provides an insightful and often humorous look at the world of dog ownership. With helpful tips for those considering getting a dog, as well as stories that will resonate with current dog owners, “What the Dog Did” is a must-read for anyone thinking about expanding their family to include a four-legged friend.

The Plot

In “What the Dog Did”, Emily Franklin tells the story of a girl named Tess and her dog, Scout. Scout is always getting into trouble, and Tess is always having to save him. One day, when Scout runs away from home, Tess has to search for him all over town. She finally finds him at the pound, but she has to pay a lot of money to get him out. Tess is very mad at Scout, but she still loves him.

The Characters

The Characters

The book is about a dog, so obviously the main character is a dog. The dog’s name is never given in the book, but he is a very loveable and loyal dog who goes through a lot of adventures. He has many friends, both human and animal, and he is always happy to help out anyone in need.

The other main characters in the book are all human. There is Mrs. Murphy, the kind old woman who owns the house where the dog lives; Mr. Murphy, Mrs. Murphy’s son who lives next door; Kevin, Mr. Murphy’s son who is the same age as Kevin; and Missy, Kevin’s little sister. There are also many other smaller characters who appear throughout the book, but these are the main ones.

Themes

In Erin Chassereau’s novel The Dog Did, readers are taken on a journey of love, loss, and hope through the lives of two young women. Themes of family, friendship, and self-discovery are explored in this coming-of-age story set in rural Maine.

Chassereau’s writing is lyrical and evocative, painting a vivid picture of small-town life and the complexities of human relationships. The characters are richly drawn and their journey is one that will resonate with many readers.

The Dog Did is a touching and ultimately uplifting story about learning to overcome life’s challenges with the help of those who love us most.

The Writing

I loved What the Dog Did. I was charmed by Emily’s writing from the first page. Her voice is fresh and funny and wise, and I found myself highlightiThere’s something about the way she captures the thoughts and feelings of her characters — human and canine — that rang so true for me. I also appreciated the way she wove in observations about the writing life, both the highs and lows.

The Ending

The book’s resolution is both touching and ironic. The family has to put their beloved dog, Daisy, to sleep. However, just before she dies, Daisy gives birth to a litter of puppies. This provides the family with hope and a new beginning during a time of sadness and loss.

Final Thoughts

All in all, I enjoyed reading What the Dog Did. I thought it was an interesting and unique story, and I liked the author’s writing style. However, there were a few things that I didn’t like about the book.

First of all, I felt that the author tried to cram too much into the story. There were a lot of different subplots and side characters, and I felt that they detracted from the central story. Additionally, I felt that the ending was a bit rushed and unsatisfying.

Overall, I would recommend What the Dog Did to fans of fiction who are looking for something a little different.

Ratings

I read “What the Dog Did” by Whiley Morris and I’m giving it four out of five stars. It’s a great book for anyone who loves dogs, and it’s a quick read too.

The book follows the perspective of a dog named Dash, which is pretty unique. You get to see the world through his eyes and learn about all the things he does when his family isn’t home. Some of the things he does are naughty, but mostly he’s just trying to have fun and stay out of trouble.

I think kids will really enjoy this book, and dog lovers of all ages will appreciate it too. It’s a feel-good story with a happy ending, and I think it would make a great gift for any dog lover in your life.
