Devin Booker was born on October 30, 1996, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His parents, Veronica Gutiérrez and Melvin Booker, divorced when he was a child. Booker and his mother moved to Mississippi when he was six years old. He played basketball for Moss Point High School in Mississippi and Kentucky’s grandiose University of Kentucky (UK) Wildcats.
In 2014-15, his freshman year of college at UK, Booker started 33 games, averaging 10.0 points per game. The following season, Booker’s stats improved to 13.8 points per game as he started all 38 games for the Wildcats. After two seasons at UK, Booker decided to enter the 2015 NBA draft. The Utah Jazz selected him with the 13th overall pick, but then traded him to the Phoenix Suns.
In his first season with the Suns (2015-16), Booker became the youngest player in NBA history to score more than 1,000 points in a season. In 2016-17, he broke a Suns franchise record by scoring 70 points in a game against the Boston Celtics. The following season (2017-18), Booker was named an NBA All-Star for the first time. Booker was raised by his mother and stepfather. He has two older stepbrothers, Davon Wade and Kevin Whiteside. As a child, Booker was fascinated by space and dreamed of becoming an astronaut. When he was 13 years old, his family moved from Grand Rapids to Moss Point, Mississippi.
In high school, Booker played for the Moss Point Tigers basketball team. As a senior, he averaged 27.5 points per game and led his team to the Mississippi Class 4A state championship game. In the championship game, Booker scored 34 points but his team lost to the Murrah Mustangs 90–79. After the game, he was named Mississippi’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

The 6th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, Booker was immediately thrown into the starting lineup for the Suns and given a huge responsibility as the scoring option on a young and rebuilding team. And he didn’t disappoint, putting up an impressive rookie season averaging 13.8 points per game while shooting 42% from three.
Booker continued to improve in his second season, increasing his scoring average to 20.5 points per game while also adding 4.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and cemented his status as one of the best young players in the league.
In his third season, Booker took another big step forward, averaging 24.9 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 38% from three-point range. He once again was named an All-Star and helped lead the Suns to their first playoff appearance since 2010.
Now in his fourth season, Booker is averaging 26.6 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 36% from three-point range. He has been named an All-Star for the third time in his career and is widely considered to be one of the best shooters in the NBA today.
