What is Made In Abyss?
Made In Abyss is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi. The story follows Riko, a girl who lives in the titular “Abyss”, an enormous and dangerous cave system which is the only known home to the “curse-bearers”, human-like creatures that are born with the ability to use powerful magic. Riko dreams of becoming an adventurer like her mother, who disappeared into the Abyss years ago. When she meets a boy named Regu, who has amnesia but seems to be connected to her mother in some way, she decides to venture into the depths of the Abyss with him in hopes of finding answers.
The series has been adapted into an anime television series by studio Kinema Citrus, which aired from July 7, 2017 to September 29, 2017. A sequel anime series, Made In Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, aired from January 17, 2020 to March 6, 2020. The series has also been licensed for English-language release by Sentai Filmworks.
The manga was nominated for Best Manga at both the 39th annual Kodansha Manga Awards and 13th annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
